CUPW and CPC have agreed the 2018 Dental Fee Guide will apply, effective January 1, 2019.

As you will recall, during negotiations CUPW and Canada Post agreed and signed language which stated that, as of January 1, 2019 the 2018 Dental Fee Guide would apply, on

January 1, 2020 the 2019 fee guide would apply and finally January 1, 2021, the 2020 fee
guide would apply.

As we were legislated back to work and forced into binding arbitration, the new collective agreement is off in the distance and therefore, so was the updating of the Dental Fee Guide. However, we have now signed a Memorandum of Agreement which provides for the 2018 fee guide to apply retroactively to January 1, 2019.

What Should I Do?

For now do nothing. If you had seen a dentist in 2019 before today, you would have only been reimbursed based on the 2016 fee guide. You do not have to do anything in order to be compensated for any retroactivity. Great West Life will review your claim using the 2018 fee guide to determine if you are owed any money. If there is a difference from what you were compensated for under the 2016 guide versus the 2018, they will compensate you the difference. They expect this adjustment to take 12 weeks. This means you should receive pay by the May long weekend.

How Could I not be Compensated?

Dentists are not bound to charge you the amount suggested in the Dental Fee Guide. Some dentists will charge you less if they see that you are not covered by the current fee guide. Some may also charge more than the current Dental Fee Guide. So depending on what your dentist has charged, you may not be reimbursed.

Problems

If after the May long weekend you have not been reimbursed or believe you should have been reimbursed, please contact Great West Life.
