300 Saint-Paul St. Facility Closure: What is Left of our Jobs?

Campaign Against Quebec City Plant Closure / Bulletin

Bulletin from the Quebec Region, translated by CUPW National

On August 3rd, the new head of Canada Post, Moya Greene, announced the closure of the 300 Saint-Paul St. sortation facility in Quebec City. Starting on December 2, 2005, the employer intends to transfer mail sortation activities currently performed in this facility to the Léo-Blanchette plant in Montreal. The transfer is to be completed by September 10, 2007. In addition to the closure, there will be a reduction in the number of positions at the Randin installation. This closure is obviously just the beginning for Moya Greene. How many more postal installations does she intend to close?

Canada Post's new vision leads us to believe that, from now on, all services will be centralized in large centres such as Montreal and Toronto. By launching an attack on Quebec City, Moya Greene shows she does not know Quebec workers very well! We won't let her steal our jobs without a fight!

Already, an action plan has been put in place to stop this closure, which shows a total lack of respect for workers who, for generations, have worked hard to provide excellent service to the people of Quebec City.

We will win this battle!

Quebec City Golf Tournament

We ask all members to boycott the golf tournament being organized by the employer, which is scheduled for September. You can't just cut 300 jobs here in Quebec City and then pretend to be a "good guy" on the golf course.

Our jobs and our dignity cannot be bought off on a golf course. This is just another example of the employer's total disregard for workers. Stand strong and boycott all activities organized by the employer!

This is just a beginning - the struggle continues!
