Dear Mr. McBride:

Re: Sale of Canada Post’s Assets

CUPW wrote to Rob Merrifield, Minister of State for Transport, to raise concerns about media reports concerning the sale of Canada Post’s assets (see attached letter dated December 10, 2008) and to ask the Minister the following questions:

Why does Canada Post keep coming up when the government’s review of assets is mentioned? Why would the government be reviewing Canada Post assets if the government does not get money from the sale of Canada Post assets? What Canada Post assets are being reviewed by the government and why?

Minister Merrifield responded to our letter by saying that the Canada Post Corporation Strategic Review did not include an assessment of Canada Post’s assets (see attached letter dated March 13, 2009).

We assume Minister Merrifield means that you and Minister Flaherty are dealing with the government’s review of assets.

Would you be able to respond to the questions that we asked the Minister responsible for Canada Post?

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Yours truly,

Denis Lemelin
National President
