In a Toronto Star article (Flaherty engages in numbers game he denounced, December 6,
2008), Chisholm Pothier, press secretary to Finance Minister Jim Flaherty, elaborated on Minister Flaherty’s
announced review regarding the sale of government assets. Pothier is reported to have said that the
government is focusing on a possible sale of enterprise Crown corporations, including Canada Post.
We followed up with Flaherty’s press secretary and he informed us that the reporter was mistaken and that the
Minister actually said, “We have no intention to sell either Canada Post or the CBC.”
Why then does Canada Post keep coming up when the government’s review of assets is mentioned? Why would the
government be reviewing Canada Post assets if the government does not get money from the sale of Canada Post
assets? What Canada Post assets are being reviewed by the government and why?
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Yours truly,
Denis Lemelin
National President
