Bill C-14 Should be Sent Return to Sender

Your Public Post Office Delivers Campaign / Bulletin

2005-2008/322

The federal government has introduced Bill C-14, an Act to amend the Canada Post Corporation Act. The bill will be given second reading and sent to a parliamentary committee for examination sometime soon. If passed, Bill C-14 would partially deregulate Canada Post by removing international letters from Canada Post’s exclusive privilege to deliver letters.

CUPW believes that it will become increasingly difficult for our public post office to provide affordable service to everyone, no matter where they live, if the government erodes the very mechanism that funds universal postal service - the exclusive privilege.

As well, we believe that Bill C-14 could set the stage for further deregulation which would harm postal workers, the public and small business. (For additional information, see the fact sheet called Privatization and deregulation of post offices - The global context - The domestic context).

Send a letter to your MP
