Dear Mr. Cannon:

CUPW is very concerned that the union has not been able to schedule a meeting with you to discuss Canada Post's plan to close the mail sorting plant in Quebec City. I have summarized below our attempts to set up a meeting:

February 9, 2006 – I sent a letter requesting a meeting to discuss your party's promise to review the decision to close the mail sorting plant in Quebec City (See attached).

February 27, 2006 – CUPW staff phoned Brigitte Lefebvre, your scheduling assistant, to find out if it would be possible to schedule a meeting. Lefebvre said our request for a meeting had not made its way through the department yet. She said the union would probably get a response to its request in a week or two.

March 10, 2006 – CUPW staff called Lefebvre to find out if the union's request for a meeting had been granted. Lefebvre promised to give our letter requesting a meeting to Paul Fizgerald, a senior policy person, with a view to getting some kind of response to our request. She said our letter had not yet made it through the departmental process.

March 14, 2006 – CUPW staff called Lefebvre to say that the union had not yet heard from Fitzgerald. Lefebvre promised to talk to Fitzgerald.

March 16, 2006 – CUPW staff called Lefebvre to find out when Fitzgerald might be calling. Lefebvre said she would talk to Fitzgerald after the call.

I understand that you are very busy, but I am hoping you will be able to meet in the near future. As you know, the plant in Quebec City is in the midst of being closed. It is therefore very important that we meet to discuss your party's promise to review the plant closing - before it is too late. CUPW will contact you in the next few days to discuss the possibility of meeting.

Yours truly,
