Further to Moya Greene's visit to Toronto

Campaign Against Quebec City Plant Closure / Bulletin

Toronto Local Bulletin - excerpts

Sisters and Brothers:

On August 10, 2005 the Toronto Local became aware of Canada Post's plan to close the Quebec City Postal Plant and move this work to Montreal, which is hundreds of kilometers away from Quebec City.

The National union was informed on July 14, 2005 that the Corporation was planning to study the mail processing network. Three weeks later, without consultation, management decided to shut down mail processing operations in Quebec City. With this decision hundreds of good paying union jobs are now removed from the community. This has a devastating effect!

Remember we told you that we had met with Moya Greene on July 28, 2005 and asked her about the plans for mechanized plants, and what changes would be made. Moya Greene stated that she had not been briefed on any changes. Ms. Greene during the meeting also complained about how cumbersome the collective agreement was.

Over the next few weeks we will be notified by National what steps will be taken to voice our outrage and to support our Sisters and Brothers in Quebec City. The message is clear. the Toronto Local is on protest alert, and will be following all the National Plans of Action.

The first plan is a petition to the House of Commons which will be distributed by your shop stewards. Please sign the petition and return to Brother John Slattery.
