Strategic Review of Canada Post / Letter

Dear Mr. Merrifield:

Re: Report of the Canada Post Corporation Strategic Review

I am writing to follow up on my November 7th letter which asks you to let us know when the report of the Canada Post Corporation Strategic Review (CPCSR) will be released to the public.

When the federal government launched the Canada Post Corporation Strategic Review a year ago, it promised to make the report of the CPCSR public. The government has not yet done this in spite of receiving the report four months ago.

A previous government only took about two months to release the report of the Canada Post Mandate Review, which was the last report on our public post office.

Four months is a very long time, even by normal standards.

In addition to being concerned about the length of time it is taking the government to release the CPCSR report, I am also concerned because I have been told that Canada Post has the report. I do not believe it is reasonable to withhold the report one moment longer, especially if the corporation has it.

The government should be discussing the CPCSR report with the people who own the post office – the public – not the people who manage it on our behalf.

In the interests of transparency and accountability, I urge you to immediately release the report of the CPCSR.

Yours truly,

Denis Lemelin
National President
