ACTION ALERT: Tell Canada Post that you want a Universal, Public Post Office on October 16th

Strategic Review of Canada Post / Bulletin

2008-2011/074

On October 16, 2008, the election will be over and the composition of the federal government will have been decided.  The future of Canada Post, however, will still be up in the air.

The Canada Post Corporation Strategic Review Panel is still deliberating.  They are considering deregulation of Canada Post.  They could make a recommendation to deregulate.

On October 16, 1981, Canada Post became a Crown corporation.  One of the mandates of the Crown corporation was to provide a universal, public postal service.

This is why we are asking all Locals to participate on October 16th in union activities wishing Canada Post a happy 27 years of providing good service to everyone, no matter where they live.

It is important to send a strong message to both Canada Post and the new federal government that we want them to keep this remarkable and universal service, not deregulate.

In solidarity,

Denis Lemelin
National President
