Media Advisory - CUPW makes delivery showing where public stands on postal deregulation

Strategic Review of Canada Post / Media Advisory

Attention News Editors:

OTTAWA, Aug. 29 - The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) will deliver their submission, which includes significant new polling results on postal deregulation, to the federal government's Canada Post Corporation Strategic Review. The union will also deliver over 10,000 postcards which feature the message Hey Harper - Hands off my post office: Say no to postal deregulation.

Who:            Denis Lemelin, CUPW National President

Where:          330 Sparks Street, Ottawa

When:           Sept. 2, 2008 at 9:30 a.m.

The delivery coincides with the final day for submissions to the government's strategic review advisory panel. The panel has been asked to answer basic questions such as should the letter market be deregulated and opened to competition. The federal government announced this review on April 21, 2008, but refused to hold public hearings or even publicize the review to any great extent. It was left to CUPW to seek public input through postcards and polling.
